Plants over Plastic: How to swap out those household products?

Living a toxin free lifestyle, or even a low toxin life can be overwhelming. Once you dive into what’s toxic in your home, you realize you can’t possibly do it all. People get discouraged and don’t end up changing anything.

When people talk to me about this, I always tell them the same thing. Look at your home and start switching out products you use the most. Don’t focus on items that don’t effect your daily life. For example, garbage bags, toilet paper and paper towels. These are items we come across multiple times a day. From cleaning up kid’s messes to your brand new puppy having an accident.

Recently I had the pleasure of trying out household products from Repurpose. They sell all sorts of nontoxic items ranging from plates and cups to garbage bags and toilet paper.

Who is Repurpose ?

They are a female funded (which by the way, love them already, Girl Power, right ladies?) on a mission to eliminate plastic pollution. As a result , they created products that don’t leach chemicals into our home and landfills. When you read about them on their website you realize quickly how much they care about our environment. Their products are reducing the negative effects we have on our world. Who wouldn’t love to be a part of that, right?

The wonderful ladies at Repurpose sent me a care package of a few of their most popular items. I received large and small garbage bags, toilet paper, and paper towels. As a family of 6 we go through these items quite quickly and they held up great. The paper towels were able to clean up the water spills, sticking fingers and gentle enough for the saucy faces. The 100% FSC-Certified Bamboo toilet paper was durable and soft for even my youngest bum. The best part was knowing all the paper products were going to degrade! No landfills filled with plastic from me today! Okay maybe that’s not totally true- but not plastic from these products at least.

Let’s talk about the garbage bags, what can you really say about garbage bags? They are lightweight and durable. Garbage bags serve one purpose to hold trash without having it go all over when you lift the bag. These bags fulfill that purpose. The thing you don’t realize is what most garbage bags actually do, They release harmful chemicals in the air or in the landfills as they break down over 5, 10 maybe even 20 years. That’s why I love these, they don’t do any of that. In fact they are compostable. They only contain materials that have been certified to break down completely into non-toxic components that will not harm the environment. Can you say the same for the ones they sell in the store?

Now helping the environment doesn’t stop there with green bags and paper products. We also need to be mindful of what we are throwing away. Recycle as much as you can, especially glass, aluminum cans and plastic. As far as living the toxin free life, these products fit the bill. They would be great to make your next child's birthday eco-friendly or for your everyday life.
